Rai is back home.... Unfortunately the allergy for one of the boys got worse, and the family had to make a hard decision.
But Rai still loves them, and most of all he loves Thea.... And we appreciate the time Rai got to spend with them!

Diary about Rai

Our summer vacation 2002 was spent in Steinkjer. We went to see Geir and Lisbeth, and their dogs, in Sparbu. During the visit we joked about us taking Rai home with us. It didn’t really fit in our plans, so we didn’t talk more about it. Later in the fall, Lisbeth call us, asking if we could try taking Rai because their two dogs didn’t get along. We promised to try, without any guaranties. We have a 2 year old daughter and we had had a bad experience with another re-homeing dog. In addition we had heard a lot of negative things about the Akita.

October 10th 2002 at 0030, Geir arrived with Rai at our home in Hvarnes

Rai settled in quickly and made our house his home, but, as we feared, he was cautious to Thea. He had never had a person this small so close, EVER. And she put her fingers in his eyes, ears and other places… He didn’t really like her until she started feeding him. Then he learned that it would be smart to be around her. She was always keen to share her food and goodies with him.

After a few days we took him with us to the horse stable, on a leash. How would he react? – He didn’t care… not about the horses, rabbits, cats or hens…. So after a while we let him run free. No problem. We only have to watch him when the horses are fed grain, ‘cause Rai loves it and the horses wont share, so they kick. Ronja, the bitch at the farm, knows to stay away, but Rai didn’t. So he got airborne a few times, but now he knows how to keep away from the horses feet.

When we went riding, we had to watch him to, ’cause he wanted to be close to us, and this resulted in him running in-between the horses legs, and this is no place for a dog. We told him to “sit” and that’s what he did.. We forgot to call him for 10 minutes and then he was covered by snow, but still sat on the same place… Well done, Rai.

Now he’s learned to watch himself for the horses, and runs along on our rides on the track and in the woods.

We made him a kennel so he could stay outside. He didn’t like it, being left alone, outside?? No way. He started making some noise, wanting to come inside… The winter and snow came, and this made it impossible to close the gate. Then Rai found it ok to stay in the kennel. We just open the front door and he walks out , entering the kennel and staying ‘till we call him again.

We went to a show, very excited to how Rai would behave with other males, but it was no problem. He behaved in the ring, earning his first CC and ending BOB. This was a perfect start for us. In his second show he had some tougher competition, but still he behaved very well. We wanted to  try again and entered a third show. This time Rai got another CC, leaving him lacking only one to become a champion, he also got his first CACIB at this show.

Easter holiday was spent in a cabin together with another family who’s got a male dachs. This dog doesn’t like other dogs. Would this end in disaster? Rai didn’t care about this little barking dog until it got really annoying. Then he just wiped the floor with it and sat on top of it ‘till it shut up. Another positive experience.

Now, 7 months after getting Rai, on probation, we only have positive experiences. 10 wild horses wouldn’t make us give this happy, cuddly and curious dog. And These and Rai are now the best friends ever. Rai follows were ever she goes and watch out for her. It she disappears, Rai is gone too.

We could have written much more and made both a book or a movie, but we stop here, for now.. Rai is the most wonderful dog!

Rai is now a Grand father! His daughter Ak-inu-bas Shirotabi Samurai Kiku "Shinju" in Germany gave birth to 6 puppies!

Late summer 2005 Rai was bred to Nortland's Imoto no Kibo, owner Hanne Kjeldsberg. Hanne wanted to kombine her bitch to the Kono-Tenba Ah-Chu at J&J's- blood, and hoped to improve colour. All 4 puppies are very well buildt and have nice temper, but unfortunately the colour isn't what we hoped for.
