The
Akita appears in four colours; Red
,
White
,
Brindle
and Sesame. Sesame is a
red Akita with black tips on the harsh outer coat. This is the
rarest colour. All colours, except for white, must have "Urajiro"; A
whitish shading present on the sides of the muzzle, on the cheeks, the
underside of the jaw, neck, chest, body and tail as well as the inside of
the legs. All other colours are disqualified. In brindle dogs, the urajiro appears different
than in reds
, they may have brindle markings in their urajiro!
The Akita has a three layer coat; a harsh outer coat, a harsh but shorter coat and a soft under- coat. The texture of the coat is important for the total impression of an Akita.
The Akita is a rather large dog. The ideal heights are 61 cm for bitches and 67 cm for dogs. Both allowed +/- 3 cm. An Akita has good substance, without giving a heavy impression. When meeting an Akita, you should never be in doubt about its sex just by looking at it.
The Akita is an "all-over" dog. It's being used for hunting, tracking, pulling, backpacking, obedience, agility or anything you like. Akitas are also used as rescue dogs.
The training of the puppy should start the moment it enters its new home. The first months are very important for an Akitas mental development. It's also important that the Akita is treated like a family member, this is not a dog you keep in a kennel.
During the upbringing you should give your Akita lots of attention and at the same time being consistently , then you will be very likely to get a well balanced and happy dog. When you're learning your dog new stuff, it's better to do break it up in small batches than keeping long hours. Akitas are fast learners, but they tend to get bored by lots or repetitions. The Akita can be stubborn, but if you're the one who decides when to start and when to stop an activity, you're telling him who's the boss.
We hope to breed akitas of really high quality, and our goal is "the Japanese dream" Dairin Go Fukuoka Tokuhisa, an impressive dog who lives in Finland
